A simple 10-minute blood test to check for early signs of prostate cancer will be available on the NHS.
Men usually have to take time off and anxiously wait up to a fortnight for results.
But the test to measure the level of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in the blood can be done during their lunch hour with the results available straight away.
Dr Tim Larner, of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, said:
"There are lots of problems with the PSA tests at the moment. Men have to take time off then come back to find out the result.
"The delays can cause unnecessary distress. There are real benefits to this test in saving time and sparing men this terrible worry." Ingrid Spickett, of the Prostate Cancer Charity, agrees: "Speedy results may alleviate some of the anxiety."
