Take The Test

Take The Test

Are you at risk?

Unlike some countries in Europe there is no national prostate cancer screening program in the UK. However, some groups of men (ethnic groups or those with a family history of prostate cancer) are more likely to develop and die from prostate cancer.

Who is at risk?

It is a common disease and four out of ten men over the age of 70 have prostate cancer. Most of them will live out their lives without this being a problem. However, every year over 10,000 men in the UK die of prostate cancer and the more aggressive the cancer is, the greater threat it poses to your life expectancy.

PSA Test

Your PSA (prostate specific antigen) can be checked in 10 minutes at your local British Prostate Centre. We are encouraging all men with a family history of prostate cancer or other risk factors to "Take the Test".

If the PSA is abnormal for your age we can take a urine sample for the PCA3 test which detects the prostate cancer gene in prostate cells passed in the urine.

Early diagnosis of prostate cancer, particularly the more aggressive types can allow treatment and cure. Others can simply be watched carefully (active surveillance) and only treated if the disease progresses.

When you book your initial appointment at The British Prostate Centre we will do a comprehensive assessment of your prostate health and risk factors and offer advice on follow-up or further investigations that may be required.
